Our Projects
25 m Kapok Tree Installation – Universeum
This central feature of Universeum’s rainforest exhibition, designed by Zooply, guides visitors via bridges and staircases for unique views of the rainforest canopy. The tree’s shell was crafted from MakeMake ConcreteClay and finished with Colour Fix and pigments. Silicone moulds and custom tools were used to create the realistic bark texture.
ConcreteClay was chosen for its ability to be shaped at full scale directly on-site, allowing complex forms and detailed surface textures without moulds or firing. The material provides long-term durability in a high-traffic public environment.
Lion’s Den for Copenhagen Zoo
To enhance both the lions’ daily life and the visitor experience, a new rock den and viewing platform was created. The structure provides the lions with shelter from the elements, a heated floor for comfort in winter, and an elevated vantage point to observe their surroundings. The den is constructed from five rock sections built over steel frames covered with mesh, sprayed with ConcreteClay, and textured to resemble real rocks. The surface was finished with Colour Fix and pigments. Throughout the process, careful consideration was given to the needs of the lions, the keepers, and the natural integration of the den into the enclosure.
ConcreteClay was selected for its ability to be applied over steel and mesh structures, enabling durable, sculpted rock surfaces in an outdoor zoological environment. The material supports detailed texturing, weather resistance, and long-term performance in high-wear conditions.
